When managing your content with Promptitude, it's essential to understand how to effectively upload and store your files in the manual folder. This guide will help you navigate the types of files you can upload, understand the word count limits, and explain how these limits might affect your usage, especially when dealing with large or complex documents.

In Promptitude's Content Storage, you can easily upload various types of documents directly from your browser. Here are the file formats supported:

  • PDF: Portable Document Format

  • DOCX: Microsoft Word Document

  • PPTX: Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation

  • CSV: Comma-Separated Values

  • TSV: Tab-Separated Values

  • HTML: HyperText Markup Language

  • TXT: Text File

Word Count Limits

While there is no restriction on the physical size of the files you upload (like MBs or GBs), there is a limit on the number of words your account can store. This is crucial because large files might require you to upgrade your plan to accommodate the increased word count.

Word count in Promptitude is not just a straightforward tally. Due to the way files are processed, you might find that your documents consume more words than they actually contain. This happens mainly due to two reasons:

1. Chunk Overlap: For typical documents like PDFs, chunks of text overlap by about 20% to ensure continuity and context. For example, a document of 1,000 words set to chunk at 500 words with a 20% overlap will use approximately 1,200 words of your storage quota.

2. CSV Files: When you upload CSV files, each row is treated as a chunk, and the column headers are included in each chunk. This means that the words in the column headers are counted multiple times, once for each row, thus increasing the total word count used.

Special Note on PDFs

It's important to note that our system is optimized for text-based documents. If you're uploading print-ready or vectorized PDFs, these might not process as expected because they are designed for printing rather than digital readability and might contain elements that are not text-based.

What to Do If You Reach Your Word Limit 🤩

If you find that your uploads are frequently hitting the word limit, it might be time to consider upgrading your plan. Upgrading will not only prevent issues with file processing but will also ensure that your prompts using contextual content continue to function effectively. Here’s how you can update your plan:

  • Visit Your Account Settings: Navigate to the plan & billing section.

  • Choose a Higher Plan: Select a plan that suits your increased needs.

  • Confirm the Upgrade: Follow the prompts to update your plan.

Understanding the file types supported and how word counts are measured can help you manage your content more effectively in Promptitude. Remember, if you're consistently hitting your word limits due to large or complex files, upgrading your plan is a straightforward solution to ensure seamless content management and prompt functionality. Don't let a full storage quota disrupt your workflow—consider an upgrade to keep everything running smoothly.
