A snippet is essentially a reusable block of text that you can use repeatedly across various prompts and chats within your organization.
In Promptitude, snippets are commonly used to store and quote static information like your company's mission statement, philosophy, names, industry details, and other elements that you frequently use but rarely change. Utilizing snippets can significantly streamline your workflow and ensure consistency in your communications.
Adding Snippets
To add a new snippet in Promptitude, follow these simple steps:
Navigate to Settings in the main sidebar.
Click on the Snippets tab.
Press the Add snippet button.
Provide a label for easy identification, set the name, and add the content. If your content is ready in a text file, you can upload a TXT file here.
Click Save to store the snippet for future use.
Editing Snippets
If you need to modify an existing snippet, here’s how you can do it:
Go to the Snippets tab under Settings.
Find the snippet in settings or in the edit prompt you want to edit and click on Edit.
Make the necessary changes in the snippet content.
Remember, any changes you make will update the snippet across all prompts where it is used.
📌 Important Note: Editing or deleting a snippet affects all instances where the snippet is used, as snippets are global elements within Promptitude.
Using Snippets
To incorporate snippets into your prompts:
When creating or editing a prompt, go to the Input tab.
Here, you can select the snippets you want to include in your prompt. This helps in maintaining a clear record of where each snippet is used, ensuring you never lose track of their placements.
📌 Note: You can use your snippets in the structure of your prompts (even without selecting them in the input tab), adding the {{name}} that your snippet has.
📌 Note: You can use snippets in your chats just by copying their {{name}}, however there is now no tracking on the usage within chats.
Important Considerations
Keep in mind that the word count of a snippet counts towards the total input of your prompts. Make sure to select a model that supports the input context window required for the total input, including your snippets.
You can check the input context window for each model in our model directory to ensure compatibility.
