Google Sheets add-ons can be a powerful tool to enhance your productivity and streamline your workflow. However, like any other software, they can sometimes present challenges. This article will guide you through some common issues you might encounter when using Google Sheets add-ons, particularly with Promptitude, our prompt management platform for businesses.

We'll cover token usage, issues with multiple linked Google accounts, and common problems with Google Marketplace extensions and add-ons.

Token Usage with Each Formula Execution

Every time you interact with a formula in Google Sheets—whether you're inserting, pasting, dragging, or refreshing the page—it triggers a new generation and consumes tokens. Monitor your token usage to manage your resources efficiently.

How a formula works

This is actually a common behavior in Google Sheets when a formula is executed, usually the formulas begin with "+" or "=" symbols.

🔹 Solution: Copy and paste your results using the "Paste values only" option, which will give you the raw results instead of computed values from a formula.

➔ Before you do that, it would be helpful to copy the formula somewhere safe for future reference. To prevent the formula from being executed when pasting it elsewhere, you should ideally add a space or put a quotation mark before the "=" symbol. This will cause Google Sheets to interpret it as text rather than a formula.

Navigating Potential Issues with Google Sheets Integration

While we strive for seamless functionality, there can be quirks, such as errors during generation when logged into multiple Google accounts. If you have more than one Google account linked, you might encounter errors when logging in with Promptitude.

🔹 Solution: Try logging in using an incognito tab. This can help bypass the issue of multiple linked accounts.

📌 Troubleshooting Issues

If you're experiencing issues with your generations, try the following steps:

  1. Refresh the browser.

  2. Use a different computer/device.

  3. Open the files using a different app/browser.

  4. Browse to the files in Incognito mode.

  5. Remove ALL browser extensions/add-ons.

  6. Clear cache and cookies.

  7. Reset the browser to default.

Google Sheets Limitations and Recommendations

If you've encountered the error message "Exceeded maximum execution time line" while using Promptitude within Google Sheets, it's related to the limitations of Google Sheets Custom Functions and the time it takes for your prompt to execute.

🔹 Solution: Experiment with a different AI provider and model to compare execution times and identify potential bottlenecks. Also, check the current status of the provider. If their servers are experiencing high load or temporary downtime, this can slow down the execution process.

Using Add-ons

Add-ons can enhance your Google Sheets experience. However, some add-ons may not work correctly without web browser support for third-party cookies.

🔹 Solution: Allow third-party cookies temporarily. You can also turn add-ons on or off at any time. To remove an add-on from all your files, uninstall it.

While Google Sheets add-ons can sometimes present challenges, understanding these issues and knowing how to navigate them can help you make the most of these powerful tools.

Remember, most issues are not due to Promptitude but are limitations of Google Sheets or the add-ons themselves. By following the recommendations provided, you can minimize these occurrences and continue to enjoy the functionality of Promptitude within Google Sheets.
