The Promptitude Excel File Template allows you to harness the power of your AI prompts directly within Excel on your desktop. This convenient tool brings your prompt library to your spreadsheets, enabling you to generate content without switching between applications.

This article guides you through the simple setup process and shows you how to start using your prompts in Excel.

How to Use the Excel Template

πŸ‘‡πŸ» Download the Template

First, you'll need to download the Excel template from the Promptitude platform. This template is specifically designed to connect with your Promptitude account and access your prompt library.

Important note: The template works only with the desktop version of Excel installed on your computer, not with the online version. Since it uses your computer's resources to run, operations may take a bit longer than in the web app - please be patient during processing.

1️⃣ Add Your API Key

  • Open the downloaded Excel template

  • Navigate to the Prompt & Settings tab

  • Locate the designated field for your API key

  • Copy and paste your Promptitude API Key into this field

Best practice: πŸ“Œ We recommend creating a dedicated API key specifically for Excel usage. This helps you track and measure generations made through this method separately from your other Promptitude activities.

2️⃣ Load Your Prompts

  • Click on the "Refresh Prompts" button in the template

  • Wait while the template connects to Promptitude and retrieves your prompt library

  • Once complete, you'll see your entire list of prompts along with their formulas and structures

Note: πŸ“Œ This process may take several seconds as it's retrieving data from Promptitude and loading it into Excel. The waiting time depends on your connection speed and the size of your prompt library.

Using Your Prompts in Excel

3️⃣ Select and Copy Your Prompt Formula

After your prompts are loaded:

  1. Browse through your prompt list to find the one you want to use

  2. Copy the formula of your chosen prompt

  3. Navigate to the sheet where you want to use the prompt (you can use the Example tab to practice)

4️⃣ Paste and Configure Your Prompt

  1. Select the cell where you want your AI-generated content to appear

  2. Make sure the cell format is set to "General" (this is crucial for Excel to recognize it as a formula)

  3. Paste the prompt formula into the cell

  4. Replace the variable placeholders in the formula with:

    • References to other cells (e.g., A1, B2)

    • Fixed text values (enclosed in quotes)

  5. Press Enter to execute the formula

Once you press Enter, Excel will process the formula, send the prompt to Promptitude with your specified inputs, and display the generated result in the cell.

⭐️ Tips for Success

  • Be patient: Generation may take longer in Excel than in the web app

  • Check cell formatting: Always ensure cells with formulas are set to "General" format

  • Organize your spreadsheet: Consider creating dedicated areas for inputs and outputs

  • Save your work: Remember to save your Excel file after setting up your prompts

  • Monitor usage: Since each formula execution counts as a prompt generation, be mindful of your API usage

With the Promptitude Excel Template, you can now seamlessly integrate AI-powered content generation directly into your spreadsheets, making your workflow more efficient and keeping all your work in one place.
